Bridging Intergenerational and Mental Health Treatment Gaps in Tanzania

Our story

Tap Elderly Women's Wisdom for Youth (TEWWY) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bridging the intergenerational and mental health treatment gaps in Tanzania. Founded in 2016 and officially registered on July 18th, 2018, under section 12(2) of Act No. 24 of 2002 of the Non-Governmental Organization Act in Dar-es-Salaam, TEWWY leverages the wisdom and experiences of elderly women to support and mentor the youth. Recognized as a mental health stakeholder by the Tanzania Ministry of Health, TEWWY is committed to fostering mental well-being and creating a supportive community for all generations.

Our mission is to bridge intergenerational and mental health treatment gaps. We train elderly women in WHO’s mental health Gap Action Program, which we've adapted to Tanzania's cultural and contextual relevance. The elderly women provide free mental health care, psychosocial support, and psychoeducation resources in under-resourced and marginalized communities.
